The Liberal Animal Shelter has taken to social media to address a distressing incident in which a mother cat and her four kittens were abandoned at their facility.
This act of animal abandonment was captured by the shelter’s security camera system, which is positioned outside their building. In a Facebook post, the shelter revealed that a person driving a pickup truck had left a mother cat and her four kittens outside their premises.
The mother cat had been tied to the shelter’s chain-link fence, while the kittens were left exposed in the open. Unfortunately, this abandonment took place while the shelter was closed, and the animals were not discovered until the following Tuesday morning.
Due to the mother cat being tethered, one of the kittens managed to wander away, and she was unable to retrieve it. Regrettably, the lost kitten has not yet been located.
The shelter expressed their dismay at the situation, emphasizing the ordeal of the mother cat, stating, “CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING TIED TO SOMETHING & NOT BEING ABLE TO GO SAVE YOUR BABY!! WE SURE CAN’T!”
Such incidents of animal abandonment have sadly become a recurring problem for the shelter. They are keen to put an end to this and encourage anyone who can no longer care for an animal to bring them to the shelter during their regular business hours.
While the shelter acknowledges the person’s intent to bring the animals to them, they emphasize that there are more appropriate and humane ways to do so. As a result, they have chosen not to share photos or videos of the incident but rather aim to educate the public on the proper procedure for surrendering animals to the shelter.
