Sandstone’s renowned Wildcat Sanctuary has extended its compassionate embrace to eight new inhabitants – Asian leopard cats – after their dire living conditions in Texas came to light.
The cats’ former owner passed away, prompting the U.S. Department of Agriculture to approach the Wildcat Sanctuary for assistance in providing care and relocating these feline creatures.
In total, the sanctuary played a vital role in rescuing 24 cats, which included three kittens and one cat with a leg amputation. Several of these feline residents have found new homes in sanctuaries located in Oregon and South Carolina.
Tammy Thies, the founder of The Wildcat Sanctuary, remarked, “Our sanctuary is currently at capacity, underscoring the urgent need for stricter regulations and educational initiatives to combat the small cat trade.”
Asian leopard cats, native to South, Southeast, and East Asia, are captivating members of the wild cat family that now find refuge and care at the Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone.
