Milton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, has witnessed a series of distressing cat disappearances, raising concerns among residents who have reported these incidents to local law enforcement over the span of ten months.
While the exact circumstances surrounding these feline disappearances remain unclear, a local veterinarian has expressed growing apprehension about the frequency with which animals have gone missing in the area. However, it is yet to be determined whether the injuries sustained by the returning cats were deliberate acts.
Shaz Potter, a resident of the village, shared her unsettling experience, recounting how her neighbor’s cat vanished before her own cat mysteriously disappeared a couple of months later.
A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police confirmed that they had received reports regarding the numerous missing cats within the vicinity.
“The investigation has been filed pending further information,” the spokesperson stated.
Ms. Potter revealed that some of the missing cats reappeared with injuries and exhibited signs of fear towards human contact.
Another resident recounted their own unsettling experience when their cat went missing and its collar was discovered in their garden, seemingly removed by an unknown party.
William Oldham, who serves as a professional at Medivet in Woodstock, acknowledged that cats tend to roam during the summer months. However, he expressed particular concern about the substantial number of cats that have gone missing in such a small area. Oldham mentioned that he had treated three cats from the neighborhood, but the nature of their injuries did not definitively indicate whether they were accidental or deliberate.
“Some of the animals had suffered significant trauma,” Oldham remarked.
Local authorities are urging anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward and assist in their investigations.
