An online saga unfolded when concerns arose about the well-being of a cherished feline resident named Parsley, who freely roamed Upper Stratton while receiving regular care and affection from the local community. These caring individuals had even gone the extra mile by constructing a cat home to provide shelter for Parsley.
While Parsley displayed signs of matted fur and an injured nose, her dedicated guardians swiftly addressed the situation, assuring everyone that she was under the care of a registered veterinarian. They confirmed that she was receiving treatment, and her condition was being diligently monitored.
One post on the Swindon Community Notice Board conveyed, “The situation is now being handled and monitored, and advice offered to her many carers. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern. We would respectfully ask that no one takes matters into their own hands.”
However, shortly after these reassurances, Parsley mysteriously vanished, leaving those who had been looking out for her deeply troubled. Then, after several days had passed, an anonymous individual took it upon themselves to post across multiple Facebook pages, revealing that they had indeed taken matters into their own hands and brought Parsley to their home.
The post explained, “Several days ago, I encountered the cat pictured below, and I was extremely concerned by the condition of the cat. The cat’s nose had completely rotten away and had a huge chunk of it missing, with blood dripping from the nasal area. As well as this, the cat was covered in very bad mats and could barely walk more than a few steps.”
Continuing, they stated, “I got an RSPCA log number and I took the cat to Eastcott vets where she would receive urgent treatment, which she desperately needed. I then left. I have since been notified by them that numerous vets discussed the case and all of them agreed that the cat was seriously unwell and that it couldn’t be saved and needed to be put to sleep, in the cat’s best interests.”
This story has sparked debate within the community, with some commending the actions of the individual for taking what they believed to be necessary steps. On the other hand, others have raised questions about whether it was their place to make this decision, given Parsley’s longstanding bond with the community that cared for her for 14 years.
