An animal rescue group has launched an investigation after a pregnant cat was found dead in a bag on a popular walking path in South Gloucestershire.
Little Paws Rescue, based in Clevedon, North Somerset, said the cat was discovered on Sunday by a passer-by along the 100 Steps route in Hanham.
Imogen Scofield from the charity said the calico cat had tried to claw her way out of the bag and had gone into labor. Sadly, none of the kittens survived.
“This is one of the most upsetting things we’ve had to deal with,” Ms Scofield said. “This poor cat didn’t deserve to suffer like this. There is help available, and they could have reached out to a rescue center like ours.”
The charity is urging anyone in the area to check for CCTV footage from Sunday that might help identify who was responsible.
Scofield confirmed that the authorities have been informed, and the group is committed to finding those involved.
