Maine Coon cats are known for being the largest domestic cat breed, but one particular Maine Coon, named Zeus, is even bigger than most. His size has left social media users in awe, with his mom sharing a video on Instagram that shows Zeus standing next to a typical domestic cat.
The short video starts with both Zeus and his sibling standing on a chair, trying to grab a treat from their mom. When they sit down, the difference in their sizes becomes clear. Zeus, who is already known for his large size, looks even more massive when compared to a regular domestic cat. His mom mentions in the video’s caption that Zeus is larger than the average Maine Coon, both in size and weight.
Zeus is an impressive 24 pounds and stands over 3 feet tall. These stats highlight just how remarkable his size is for a domestic cat.
Commenters on the video were equally surprised. One user, @melody_aries_amaranth, compared Zeus to a Great Dane, calling him “the cat version of a Great Dane.” Another user, @klca3711, admitted, “Genuinely thought that was a dog at first glance.” @bexhaus shared how their own large cat can reach the counters, and noted that Zeus likely could too, based on other videos.
One viewer, @jadams, asked if Zeus’s tail was as long as the cat in a recent record-setting story about an 18-inch tail. Zeus’ mom replied that while she had seen the story and thought the cat was beautiful, Zeus’s tail wasn’t that long.
The name “Zeus” also raised some curiosity. @puddycats_mom wondered whether Zeus grew into the name or if his owners changed it as he got bigger. Zeus’ mom shared that the name was chosen long before he grew large. She explained that she had always imagined naming a future giant dog “Zeus.” When the kitten appeared, with golden eyes and fluffy black fur, she felt the name suited him perfectly. “This is my Zeus,” she said. “Majestic and astonishing. Zeus for sure was meant to be Zeus!”
Zeus’s size continues to captivate viewers, making him a standout star on social media.
