Winnipeg cat enthusiasts had a treat this weekend with the return of the Meow Mania spring market and adoption fair, held at St. Norbert Arena.
Sabrina Naayen, the event organizer, expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “What’s not to love about cats? They’re lovable, funny, and they can make you laugh when you’re feeling down.”
On Sunday morning, hundreds of visitors gathered outside the arena, eager to explore offerings from 40 local vendors selling cat-themed items. The event, which first took place last fall, was a major success, according to Naayen. “The response to our last event was overwhelming,” she recalled. “We had just over 1,000 people attend, with a huge line at the door. 150 people entered at once. The enthusiasm and excitement were huge. Everybody loved it, and the demand is definitely there.”
In addition to the vendors, six local animal rescues brought cats up for adoption. Several famous feline personalities also made appearances for meet-and-greets throughout the day. Before the event, 300 tickets were pre-sold, and the first hour alone saw 150 swag bags given away.
Naayen is already planning the next event, which will take place in the fall. “This is going to be a semi-annual event, and we’re excited for what’s to come,” she said. “With each event, we hope to try something new to keep the cat community excited and engaged.”
