Tributes have poured in for Felix, a well-loved and locally-famous cat from Liskeard, Cornwall, who tragically passed away after being hit by a car.
Felix was a familiar sight in the area, often seen lounging on a bench near the local Morrisons supermarket. His presence had become a source of joy and comfort for many residents and visitors. According to his owners, Felix will be cremated, and his ashes will be returned to them later this week.
A Facebook group dedicated to documenting Felix’s adventures was created last year, quickly amassing over 1,400 members. The group became a space for locals and visitors to share their experiences and stories of the much-loved cat.
Felix’s owner, Shaz Harris, shared her surprise at how many people had been touched by Felix’s friendly nature. “We only discovered his secret life 11 months ago, but had no idea just how many people were involved until we were asked to set up a page for his friends to post photos and share their stories of him,” Harris said. “The children who rushed to see him after school, the elderly who may not have spoken to anyone that day, each and every person he helped in some small way.”
The outpouring of grief has been overwhelming, with flowers, cards, gifts, and tributes left at Felix’s favorite bench. “Felix loved his life and this community. He would spend hours as a self-appointed community support officer, escorting people across the road and back from the shops,” Harris recalled.
Cats Protection Launceston and District also expressed their sadness, saying, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Felix, a truly special cat who captured the hearts of so many in our community. A local star and cherished companion, Felix brought joy to everyone who knew him. Our hearts go out to his family and all who loved him.”
Felix’s passing has left a hole in the community, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
