Blue, an eight-year-old cat, has been reunited with his family after disappearing from his home in Queen’s Hills, Costessey, back in 2020. His owners, Kaitlin Fox and her family, had searched tirelessly for the beloved pet, putting up posters, leaving out familiar scents, and knocking on neighbors’ doors. Despite their efforts, after a year with no sign of Blue, they sadly gave up hope.
Then, last Sunday, Kaitlin received an unexpected call from Taverham Vets that would change everything. Blue had been spotted in a garden in Ringland, and after several attempts, a local woman had managed to coax him indoors before taking him to the vets.
When Blue was brought in, he was in poor condition – thin, matted, covered in ticks, and with a painful wound under his armpit. However, thanks to his microchip and the treatment provided by Taverham Vets, Blue’s identity was confirmed, and the long-awaited reunion was set in motion.
Kaitlin said, “I was pretty speechless. First of all, I was wondering why they were calling me since I wasn’t registered with them, but they said they had Blue there. I thought they were going to tell me he’d been in a car accident, but they said no, he’s here, alive and well.”
Veterinary nurse Lydia cleaned Blue’s wounds, removed the ticks, and groomed his matted fur. “He came straight over for a head bump and a cuddle and was purring away,” Kaitlin shared. “We have no idea where he’s been for the last five years. We’ll just give him a lot of TLC and build him back up again.”
The Fox family, now living in Welborne near Mattishall, are overjoyed to have Blue home. Kaitlin expressed, “Me and my children are just in shock really and so pleased he’s home. It’s nice to have a good news story… I hope it can give other people hope.”
Lydia Barker, the veterinary nurse who cared for Blue, said, “Reuniting Blue with his owner after five long years was an incredible moment, and the fact that it happened on Mother’s Day made it even more special! This is exactly why microchipping is so important – without it, Blue may never have made it home.”
