A heavily pregnant cat, now named Darjeeling, has been rescued in Bradford after being abandoned, tied, and taped up in a box. The grey cat is close to giving birth, with volunteers monitoring her closely, checking for signs of labor or distress every two hours.
Katie Lloyd, founder of the cat rescue organization, shared the heartbreaking details: “This little lady was left for dead, tied and taped up in a box, abandoned and abused.” Thankfully, Darjeeling is now receiving the care she needs from the rescue team.
In a separate rescue, a tiny kitten named Mario was found trapped in the mud under a hedge at the bottom of a garden in the BD2 area. Despite efforts to locate his mother and siblings, Mario is currently being cared for in intensive care by the BCWRS’ critical care team. At under a week old, Mario’s condition is critical, and he is being fed every 90 minutes around the clock for at least the next week.
Another tragic case involved a stray cat named Arnold, who had been suffering with horrific facial lesions. Volunteers managed to capture Arnold, but the emergency vet confirmed that he was suffering from advanced cancer that had severely disfigured his face. Katie Lloyd reflected on the heartbreaking situation, saying, “This poor boy’s help came too late. He went to the emergency vets this evening who confirmed this was a cancer, likely bone, that had eaten away at almost half his face. Over the last few months, how many people walked on by? Did you feed him but fail to get him help?”
Sadly, Arnold had to be put to sleep to end his suffering. However, Katie and the rescue team took comfort in knowing that he would no longer endure pain.
To raise awareness about the charity’s work and bring the community together, the cat rescue will be hosting a special event for Eid this Sunday, April 6, from 1pm to 4pm at The Sanctuary on Ashbourne Avenue. Attendees can get their cats microchipped, meet the volunteers, and enjoy snacks, henna, and treat bags for children. Katie, a former pediatric nurse who now runs the rescue, invited everyone to attend and support the cause.
