Police in Belfast have launched an online appeal to locate a missing cat, Dobby, who was last seen on March 19. Authorities believe the cat was taken by someone in the Ormeau Road area, and the individual is reportedly refusing to return him.
The appeal, shared on the South Belfast PSNI Facebook page, has sparked mixed reactions. Some commenters questioned the use of taxpayer money for the search, while others supported the police’s efforts.
The PSNI stated in the post that Dobby went missing from his home on Lower Ormeau Road. A spokesperson explained: “It is believed that Dobby has been brought in by someone in the Ormeau Road area who is refusing to return him.”
The PSNI is asking anyone with information about Dobby’s whereabouts to contact them by calling 101 and quoting serial 570 of 22/03/25.
While some on social media questioned the police’s involvement in the case, others defended the service. One commenter pointed out, “If someone stole your dog, would you not ring the police? Of course you would.” Another added, “This is a family pet. Have a bit of respect for the young children who want their cat home.”
Despite the debate, the PSNI continues to seek information to reunite Dobby with his owners.
