An animal rescue group in Ohio is speaking out after rescuing a mother cat and her newborn kittens, who were abandoned in the woods.
On March 14, Joseph’s Legacy, an animal shelter based in Butler County, Ohio, shared a post on Facebook detailing the rescue of the cats. The shelter’s team found the cats in a box at Smith Park in Middletown, Ohio, and the post included a heartfelt letter to the person responsible for abandoning them.
The photos posted show the mother cat, a tortoiseshell, and her kittens, which are orange, black, and calico.
In a bold message aimed at the individual who left the cats behind, the shelter wrote, “May all your socks be slightly damp for eternity. May every chair you sit in make that weird squeaky noise. May your phone charger only work at a very specific angle that requires you to stand on one foot while humming the national anthem. May your pizza always arrive lukewarm and slightly squished on one side.”
The post continued with humorous jabs: “And you know what else? I hope every time you go to drink something, you miss your mouth just a little bit and dribble it down your shirt. In public. During important meetings. I hope every time you try to look cool in front of someone, you trip over absolutely nothing.” The shelter ended the message with, “May karma find you, and may she be wearing steel-toed boots.”
The shelter assured followers that all the cats are doing well since their rescue, despite the fact that the mother cat couldn’t produce milk after being abandoned.
The post also served as a fundraiser to support the mama cat and her kittens, raising over $1,600 in donations by the following Friday.
“Let me be clear,” the shelter’s Facebook page added, “the post isn’t a joke. I would likely offend most with the words I’d like to use. I’m not being nice, I am preventing this page from being deleted/unpublished. Trust me, I feel no sympathy for them. I’m downright angry.”
On March 17, a follow-up post showed pictures of the kittens and their mother, now living in a foster home. The shelter referred to the group as the “box family” and shared how they are adjusting to life in their new home as they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and show off their personalities.
“Momma cat, though she’s just a sweet young thing herself, is absolutely rocking the whole motherhood gig,” the shelter wrote. “She’s like a tiny superhero, making sure her little ones are showered with endless love and snuggles. Talk about #MomGoals!”
Joseph’s Legacy also shared that the kittens are already developing their own little quirks, including playing games and perfecting their adorable meows. “They’re basically professional cuties-in-training!” the shelter wrote.
The cats are still waiting for a veterinary team to clear them for adoption, and the shelter is not placing them up for adoption yet. They plan to make an announcement when the kittens are ready for their forever homes.
“We’re absolutely blown away by all the love you’ve shown our little box family. Your comments and shares make our hearts do happy dances!” the shelter added. “When these precious beans are ready for their forever homes, we just know they’ll find the most amazing families to continue their adventures with.”
