Cat Tales Rescue, a volunteer-run shelter dedicated to offering “a safe haven for cats in need,” is closing its doors after eight years of service. The shelter, located at 920 Lafayette Road in Seabrook, will officially shut down on April 1, according to a recent post on its social media channels.
While the closing is bittersweet, there is a silver lining. As of Sunday, March 16, all the cats in the shelter have found new homes. Kelli Cassidy, the director of Cat Tales Rescue, shared her gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community. “The love and support we’ve received has been incredible,” Cassidy said. “We’ve placed almost every cat after a successful adoption day. Local rescues have also stepped in to help by taking the remaining cats.”
Cassidy, who previously worked with FuRRR Feline Rescue in Rochester’s Gonic neighborhood, opened Cat Tales Rescue in 2018. The facility’s three adoption rooms, spanning 1,100 square feet, provided space for cats to live and play, while also offering visitors the chance to meet them.
Throughout its operation, Cat Tales Rescue welcomed all cats, regardless of age, health, or origin—whether they were surrendered by local pet owners, stray animals, or rescues from kill shelters in other states. After receiving veterinary care, vaccinations, and a 48-hour quarantine, the cats were nurtured in a safe, loving environment until they were adopted into forever homes.
Over the past eight years, Cat Tales Rescue has saved the lives of more than 6,000 cats, thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers and the support of adoptive families.
