Peach’s family adopted her as a tiny kitten, and over the past year, they’ve come to understand her quirky personality.
“She’s your typical ginger cat: always zooming around, demanding attention, and occasionally falling off the fridge,” said Holly Fairbrass, Peach’s mom, in an interview with The Dodo.
One of Peach’s favorite pastimes is watching her mom take a bath. She would sit on the edge of the tub for the entire duration. Eventually, her parents wondered if Peach might enjoy being in the bath with her mom.
“We decided to try putting her in a mixing bowl and see if she’d float,” Fairbrass explained. “Once she felt the warmth of the water, she loved it.”
From that moment on, Peach took every opportunity to float in the tub. Her parents got creative, experimenting with various household items to serve as her boats.
“We’ve tried everything from mixing bowls with kids’ inflatables around them to pool noodles around a sink bowl,” Fairbrass said. “It’s harder than it sounds to find something that works as both a bed and a flotation device for a cat.”
After a lot of trial and error—and a few wet mishaps—Peach has become more appreciative of the floating options her parents provide, especially as she grows and it becomes harder to find suitable boats.
“Her favorite right now is a giant mixing bowl from our local store,” Fairbrass said. “She’s outgrown all her other boats.”
It seems Peach is destined to be a sailor, and her parents are more than happy to help her live out that destiny.
