More than 50 cats were rescued from a public storage unit in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in what officials are describing as another heartbreaking case of animal hoarding and neglect.
The Bucks County SPCA (BCSPCA) reported on social media that Falls Township Animal Control discovered 53 cats living in poor conditions at a storage facility located on Commerce Blvd. in Fairless Hills.
Falls Township Animal Control contacted BCSPCA for assistance, and the organization’s chief humane officer quickly mobilized a response team to transport the animals to safety.
According to officials, the cats and kittens were housed in overcrowded, filthy cages and carriers. Many of the cats appeared sick, and some were in serious condition. None of the animals had microchips, and most were not spayed or neutered.
The rescued animals are now being cared for at the BCSPCA Lahaska and Quakertown Shelters, where they are receiving the necessary care and attention.
“We are thankful these cats are now safe and beginning their journey to recovery. Charges against the owner are pending,” the BCSPCA shared. “Our Chief Humane Officer worked to negotiate the surrender of all 53 cats, a crucial step toward getting them adopted into loving homes once they are fully healed.”
The BCSPCA also reassured the public that pet owners who may have lost a cat can submit a lost pet report on their website. If any matches are found, they will be contacted.
