The Abby Cat Daddy is looking to expand its care efforts, but it needs some help to achieve its goals.
Despite its name, the organization serves not only Abbotsford but also surrounding areas like Mission and Chilliwack. To address the growing demand, the group has launched a 50-50 raffle and an online silent auction featuring over $2,000 worth of items, such as event tickets, artwork, kayaking vouchers, and more. Proceeds from the auction will be allocated as follows:
- 25% to Abby Cat Daddy’s TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program
- 25% to cover current medical expenses
- 50% to the Abby Cat Daddy’s Thrift Store & Adoption Centre Fund
“We hope to have the store open by this summer as part of our efforts to become financially independent and to increase our adoption capacity,” said Logan Bryan, founder of Abby Cat Daddy.
The organization regularly takes in an average of 50 cats through foster care. Last year, they also trapped and neutered 35 cats and issued 90 TNR vouchers.
“We receive daily requests for free spays and neuters, which we currently can’t accommodate. However, we hope to offer these services, or even at a reduced cost, with the help of grants in the near future,” Bryan added.
Unchecked, stray cat populations can grow into entire colonies within two years. Cats typically reach sexual maturity between four and five months of age, and females can give birth to four to six kittens in their first year, with up to three litters per year.
“The growth rate depends on the ratio of females to males and how many kittens survive from each litter.”
While Abby Cat Daddy’s foster pool has faced challenges in keeping up with the influx of cat surrenders each week, the organization’s recent charity status offers an incentive for those looking to support financially. Donations are now tax-deductible, and auction participants can request tax receipts for the estimated value of their contributions.
