Approximately 30 of the 40 cats rescued from the 2024 Iowa floods have already been adopted, just one week after arriving at the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) shelter in Portland.
With assistance from the nonprofit Greater Good Charities, the cats were flown to Portland on February 26 for adoption. Currently, seven cats are still available for adoption, while three others are receiving veterinary care.
The Iowa cats that remain in need of homes include Luka, Ranger, Kitty Girl, Emily, Ginny, Kimberly, and Neville Longbottom, according to OHS spokesperson Laura Klink. Although many of the Iowa cats were adopted quickly, new cats continue to arrive at OHS adoption centers in Portland and Salem this week.
“It’s important to note that nearly 70 cats are coming to OHS this week from our Oregon shelter partners,” Klink said. “Transfers of pets from out-of-state shelters make up only a small portion of the pets we receive through our second chance program.”
