A loving and affectionate cat is searching for a new home to spend her golden years after being abandoned by her owners at an Indiana shelter. The Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers shared her story on February 25, stating, “14 years of love… then she lost everything.” The shelter explained that the Calico cat, named Juliet, had spent years with one branch of her family, then with another, before being left at the shelter in January.
“Juliet has been through so much,” the shelter continued. “When she was just a year old, she had all four paws declawed, leaving her vulnerable and now suffering from arthritis in her hips and back.” Juliet is also a bit overweight, which puts additional pressure on her joints, making it harder for her to use certain types of litter boxes. The shelter explained that she had been faithful to her litterbox until a month ago, likely due to the difficulty caused by high-sided or top-opening boxes. A low-sided litterbox with soft, fine-grained litter would be much easier and less painful for her to use.
Despite her challenges, Juliet remains a people-loving cat, seeking warmth and comfort from a loving human companion. “This sweet senior girl is affectionate, playful, and loves being held. She just needs a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe again,” the shelter stated. “A soft bed, a low-sided litterbox, and a warm lap to curl up in—that’s all she’s asking for.”
The shelter stressed that no 14-year-old cat should have to spend her days in a shelter. “But every day she waits, she loses a little more hope.”
