Cat owners are no strangers to the “cattitude” that many felines seem to possess—an unpredictable, sassy personality that can go from cuddly to annoyed in seconds. One black cat recently proved this with a hilarious video.
On February 16, 2025, Instagram user Angie Mathis (@purplefairypeach) posted a clip of her adorable black cat who had found a new favorite spot to sit—the kitchen fridge. The cat refused to leave, creating an amusing standoff with its mom.
While the cat’s mom may have been slightly frustrated by the feline’s refusal to get out of the fridge, it was clear that everyone else found the situation incredibly entertaining. The cat’s stubbornness brought plenty of laughter from viewers, with one person commenting, “They love doing this in places that are hard for you to grab them out of. I swear they feel so smart for finding a spot like the fridge, dishwasher, cabinets, etc.”
Another commenter shared, “Is it a black cat thing to like the cold? My black cat also loves to be in the fridge.”
Other viewers joined in with their own amusing thoughts, including, “I KNOW there is a toddler out there telling around ‘yeah, my mom keeps the cat in the fridge,'” “My cats have learned how to open the fridge, doors, cabinets, and drawers, so we have to childproof our house,” “He was highly offended when you grabbed the scruff of his neck the first time,” and “It’s the turning of his butt in your general direction after you just tried to pull him out that has me rollin!”
The exact reason why the cheeky cat loves sitting in the fridge remains a mystery, as cats can’t exactly explain their behavior.
For cat owners who may be facing similar silliness at home, there are plenty of ways to enrich their cat’s life and prevent boredom, according to the Animal Humane Society. While cats love to explore new spots, like the fridge, there are simple ways to keep them engaged.
“Living indoors provides a safe and comfortable environment for our beloved feline friends,” the site explains. “However, it’s essential to ensure that indoor cats stay mentally and physically stimulated to prevent boredom and promote their overall well-being.”
Cats are naturally curious, so small changes—like adding a cardboard box, crinkled paper to their cat bed, or new interactive toys—can spark their interest. The organization also suggests using puzzle feeders during mealtime to make feeding time more fun and engaging for cats.
