A video posted on TikTok on the night of February 25th shows a rescue cat shelter in Taman Perling, Johor, engulfed in flames.
In the footage, a man is seen climbing over a fence at the shelter, clearing debris in his effort to reach the cats trapped in their cages. The sounds of meowing can be heard in the background, adding to the intensity of the situation.
The TikTok user who shared the video, @karlzidane, wrote in the caption, “Salute to this brother. So many of those poor cats still in their cages.”
As the video progresses, another man rushes to assist with the rescue efforts.
A follow-up video was posted earlier today (February 25th), showing a group of men trying to extinguish the flames with water.
TRP contacted the Johor Bahru Fire and Rescue Station, and an officer confirmed that a container on Jalan Camar 13, Taman Perling, had caught fire last night. However, the fire department did not specifically mention a cat shelter in their report, suggesting the community may have been housing the rescued cats independently.
According to comments on the video, the shelter’s owner was reportedly out of town when the fire broke out.
As for the cats, the video uploader shared that only three cages were successfully rescued, and many others were lost in the blaze.
The fire department has stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
