A beautiful white cat, Everest, was recently surrendered to the FurKids Midtown Atlanta Center in Georgia for a reason that many would consider unjustifiable. The cat, who had been a companion since kittenhood, was given up because he shed white fur. This unfortunate decision has left the cat confused and heartbroken, as his owner no longer wanted him due to his shedding.
Deanna, the manager of the rescue, was visibly emotional upon seeing Everest at the facility. She expressed disbelief at the reason for the surrender, calling it heartbreaking. Deanna shared a video of the cat online, something she doesn’t typically do, but the story moved her deeply.
According to Deanna, Everest’s previous owner had never taken him to the vet or had him neutered. Instead, they gave him up simply because of his white fur shedding.
When Everest arrived at the shelter, he was clearly frightened and confused. “He howled so much because he was scared,” Deanna explained. She and her team are now hoping to find a loving home for the cat as quickly as possible.
While Everest will not be listed on the FurKids website until he is neutered (which is expected to happen within the week), potential adopters can still apply to adopt him at FurKids. Deanna expressed that Everest deserves far better than the life he has known so far.
Many people who saw Everest’s story on social media shared their thoughts, agreeing that he deserves the best. One commenter wrote, “Someone let me know when he’s adopted so I can stop crying.” Another person said, “As a cat owner I am shaking. He’s never been out of the house. This is so cruel.” Others expressed similar sentiments, with one commenter pointing out, “My cat has torn my couch to shreds but he’s family! You don’t just give up on family, poor baby.” Another user remarked, “That’s not a reason to get rid of a pet. Everest is absolutely gorgeous and I hope he finds his forever home soon!”
The outpouring of support highlights the deep connection many people feel for their pets and their hope that Everest will soon find a loving, permanent home.
