A viral TikTok video has sparked a wave of outrage among animal lovers after showing two cats chained up outside a house in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan.
The video shows an orange and a black cat tied up like dogs on the house’s porch, sharing a single bowl of water. Feeling sorry for the animals, a passerby pushed two bowls of food under the gate to feed them.
In a follow-up video, TikTok user Akak Embun (@geraklupaperojer) allegedly spoke with the cat owners, and the two reached an agreement. The owners agreed to release the cats from their chains and allow them to roam freely.
Despite the outcome, the incident has sparked a debate online, with some questioning whether chaining cats is a form of animal abuse. While many animal lovers were quick to condemn the practice, others defended it, suggesting that the situation might not be as severe as it appeared.
Some cat owners came forward, sharing that they chain their own cats to prevent them from soiling neighbors’ properties. They pointed out that, unlike caged animals, the cats in the video were still able to move around in the safety of the car porch.
Other viewers suggested that the owners might have chained the cats out of concern for their safety, fearing that they might go missing or be stolen. Some even believed the owners cared for their pets, but had opted for chains out of fear of them wandering off.
On the other hand, several people argued that the chain appeared too heavy for the cats and recommended using a lighter leash for the animals’ comfort.
There were also calls for the cat owners to be reported and potentially face legal consequences. Despite the strong opinions on both sides, some observers suggested the issue could be a matter of perception, as chaining pets is more commonly associated with dogs than with cats.
