A heartwarming reunion unfolded as Carrot Cake, a courageous cat who survived the Eaton Fire, was returned to his family after being rescued by the Pasadena Humane Society.
In the wake of the devastating Eaton Fire, which left many families heartbroken as their homes and belongings were destroyed, some have found hope through the return of beloved pets. One such reunion involved Carrot Cake, a two-year-old cat whose survival story is truly remarkable.
First responders found Carrot Cake on January 16, nine days after the fire had begun, in a burned area of Altadena. His family had been forced to evacuate as the fire approached their home and was unable to find him before they left. By the time they were allowed to return, their home had been reduced to ashes, and they feared Carrot Cake had not survived.
“When we came back the following morning, my house was cinders. I mean, my whole house was gone. I lost everything,” said Stephen, Carrot Cake’s father, in a video shared by Pasadena Humane.
Upon arriving at the Pasadena Humane Society, Carrot Cake was found to have burned paws and singed fur, but it was a miracle that he had survived at all.
“I knew he was a fighter. I thought maybe he had survived. If any cat was going to survive, it was going to be this one,” Stephen shared.
Luckily, Carrot Cake was microchipped, allowing the Pasadena Humane Society to identify him and reunite him with his family. The emotional reunion was filled with joy and relief.
“I just can’t believe he’s here,” Stephen exclaimed. “I can’t believe they found him, actually. I never thought I’d see him again.” Overcome with emotion, Stephen lovingly petted Carrot Cake, amazed at their reunion.
To share the good news, Stephen video-called his daughter, who was thrilled to see Carrot Cake. “You are never going to believe this. Look who we found,” Stephen said joyfully, showing his daughter the cat carrier.
“Thank you so much for helping me find my kitty,” Stephen’s young daughter said through the phone, her voice filled with gratitude.
Stephen expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Pasadena Humane Society and the firefighters who played an essential role in reuniting him with Carrot Cake. This story of survival and reunion offers a touching reminder of hope amid the devastation caused by the Eaton Fire.
