Some cats prefer the calm of a quiet room with a view, while others crave active playtime with a human companion. At Whiskers Luxury Cat Boarding, felines with all kinds of personalities find a comfortable home away from home while their owners are away.
Co-owner Jennifer Miller was inspired to switch careers after teaching, bringing her years of experience raising and showing Bengal cats into her new venture. In 2014, Jennifer, along with her daughter-in-law Twyla Miller, who has a lifelong passion for rescuing wild animals, opened the cat boarding business.
Whiskers offers cat boarding services for stays ranging from a minimum of two days to the entire summer. Initially opening with 21 rooms, the business has expanded into an additional suite next door, now offering 32 rooms in total.
Cats from the same family are housed together, with rooms available in various sizes, from cozy spaces to larger playrooms. The facility employs a team of four staff members who care for each guest by providing meals, medication, cuddles, and interactive play sessions.
“Everything is about what makes the cat happy,” said Jennifer Miller. “That’s where our cat technicians come in. Throughout the day, they’ll hang out with each cat and provide enrichment—whatever the cats need.”
The facility is designed to create a cat’s dream environment, complete with bird programming on the televisions in each room, hamsters and gerbils within sight, and a birdcage with colorful finches to provide soothing tweeting sounds throughout the day.
“We could be fully booked with 45 cats or have just 20 here, and it will still feel the same,” Twyla Miller explained.
After more than a decade in business, the Millers have plenty of memorable stories of the charismatic cats that have stayed at their facility.
“There’s a lot of reward in this job, and that’s probably what stands out most to us,” Jennifer Miller said.
