Just months after being rescued from a Fountain City trailer home, dozens of cats are now ready for adoption.
Last October, authorities discovered more than 70 animals living in dire conditions while serving an eviction notice at a trailer home. During the visit, they also found that one of the occupants had been deceased for six weeks.
In response, several nonprofit organizations and volunteers came together to help rescue the malnourished and severely ill animals. The Buffalo County Humane Association took in 51 of the cats, converting multiple rooms into living spaces and assigning each cat a number instead of a name to streamline their care.
After months of dedicated treatment, the cats have now been named, spayed, and are fully prepared for adoption.
“This boy, when he first came in, was so scared—he would just hide in the back of his kennel,” said shelter administrator Kristen Gregerson, referring to a cat named Bond. “The transformation is incredible. A little love and care truly go a long way, and now, they’re all thriving.”
To highlight the cats’ progress, Gregerson has been sharing Valentine’s Day-themed posts on Facebook, featuring before-and-after photos of the adoptable cats.
Currently, 37 cats are still in need of loving homes, but the shelter remains in urgent need of supplies and donations to support the high number of animals in their care.
Gregerson noted that the shelter has an Amazon wish list available on their Facebook page for those who want to contribute. Additionally, direct donations can be made through their website.
