Labour MP Charlotte Nichols recently visited the Cats Protection – Warrington Cat Centre in Padgate to learn more about its efforts to re-home and care for cats and kittens.
The Cat Centre, which has been a staple in Warrington for many years, is well-regarded within the local community.
Warrington North MP, Ms. Nichols, said, “It was lovely to catch up with the amazing team at the Cats Protection – Warrington Cat Centre and to have a cuddle with some of their residents, including Russi and a litter of kittens named after characters from The Lion King, all of whom are looking for their forever homes.”
She continued, “We discussed a variety of topics, including the main reasons cats come into their care, the national insurance challenges faced by the charitable sector, and the importance of making rental accommodations more pet-friendly.”
Cats Protection, the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, has helped an average of 157,000 cats and kittens annually over the last five years, addressing a wide range of issues. In addition, the charity has successfully re-homed 34,000 cats each year in the UK.
The primary reasons people adopt cats include seeking companionship, reducing stress, and alleviating loneliness. However, around 300,000 households have reported to Cats Protection that they have considered giving up their cat, often due to financial difficulties such as rising living costs, which have forced some owners to cut back on veterinary care and food.
Cats Protection continues to offer volunteering opportunities year-round. If you’re interested in trying something new or think you could provide a loving home for one of the cats, the organization encourages you to get in touch.
