A new bill proposed in Harrisburg aims to ban the declawing of cats in Pennsylvania, except when deemed medically necessary.
The procedure, known as onychectomy, involves the amputation of the last bones in a cat‘s toes to prevent scratching.
State senators Carolyn Comitta (Democrat) and Tracy Pennycuick (Republican) introduced the bill, which seeks to amend state law to prohibit the procedure for cosmetic purposes.
The legislation is still in its early stages, and it remains uncertain when, or if, it will be brought to the Senate floor for a vote.
