The Ottawa Humane Society is expressing gratitude to a local lost-and-found Facebook group for helping locate a cat who had been missing for two weeks.
Trippy had been at the Ottawa Humane Society for over a month before she was adopted on January 2. As her new family was leaving, Trippy managed to escape from her carrier and run off. Despite efforts from her adopter and shelter staff, she was not immediately found.
For more than two weeks, Trippy faced numerous dangers, including harsh weather, vehicles, and potential predators. With a cold snap approaching, time was running out to find her before the freezing temperatures posed a serious risk to her survival.
Over the weekend, Trippy was found nearly four kilometers away from the shelter at someone’s door in the Medhurst Park area. Thanks to Facebook users, she was identified and safely returned to the shelter on Sunday for recovery.
The Ottawa Humane Society warned that freezing temperatures are especially dangerous for cats left outdoors. Overnight, temperatures in Ottawa dropped to -20°C and are expected to fall even further on Monday night into Tuesday morning.
