A cat with a rough start at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) has found a loving home following an unexpected encounter with a volunteer.
On Friday, January 17, a volunteer at HSPPR was going about her shift when her boyfriend stopped by to visit her. Together, they decided to check in on a grumpy cat who had been through a tough time and needed some extra attention.
Nemo, as the cat was named, had been found by Animal Law Enforcement officers in poor condition. His right back leg was not functioning, and he was underweight. The HSPPR veterinary team worked hard to care for him, but after much deliberation, it was decided that amputating his leg would give him the best chance at a happy life. While the procedure was necessary, it left Nemo with the reputation of being a “grumpy pants,” spending most of his time sulking.
However, when the volunteer and her boyfriend visited Nemo, something miraculous happened. He stood up and walked over to them as though he had known them forever. After spending some time with him, the volunteer realized she wanted to adopt him, though she knew it was a big decision. She sought advice from her grandmother before making a final choice.
According to HSPPR, the grandmother told her that if she didn’t adopt Nemo, she would drive across the country to do so herself. With that encouragement, the volunteer officially adopted Nemo on Friday, giving the grumpy cat a new home full of love.
