A stray tabby cat named Buddy, a familiar sight at Millennium Park since spring, has finally found a loving home. According to PAWS Chicago, Buddy was adopted on Saturday by Melissa Miller of Michigan City, Indiana, who first encountered him while ice skating weeks earlier.
“I had never seen a stray cat who was so open to meeting people,” Miller shared in a statement, recalling her initial interaction with the friendly 2-year-old feline.
Moved by the encounter, Miller provided Buddy with water and connected with local cat advocates, leaving her contact details should they manage to capture him. For months, Buddy had skillfully evaded capture, despite the efforts of concerned residents.
Buddy’s luck changed on December 23 when he was finally caught and brought to PAWS Chicago. The no-kill animal welfare organization ensured Buddy received a thorough veterinary checkup, neuter surgery, and vaccinations.
Thanks to the person who captured Buddy and shared Miller’s information with PAWS, the team quickly reached out to her. Miller didn’t hesitate to bring Buddy into her home.
“I feel like it was meant to be,” Miller said. “I’d been planning to find a companion for my cat, and I felt an instant connection with Buddy when we met. He’s been so happy being home.”
Now adjusting to his new life, Buddy enjoys exploring, staying hydrated, and indulging in his favorite activity—eating.
With Buddy happily settled, he’s all set to welcome the new year in his forever home.
