A Paxton woman has been joyfully reunited with her missing cat, Zeus, after more than a month of searching.
Zeus has been a constant companion to Dallas Thompson since she was 15, and now at 28, Thompson reflects on the many years she’s spent with the beloved pet. However, on November 2, Thompson faced an unexpected and heartbreaking situation when she discovered that Zeus was missing.
That morning, Thompson and her husband noticed Zeus wasn’t lying with her as he usually did. Upon checking the basement, her husband found a broken window screen, suggesting that Zeus may have slipped out unnoticed.
In the weeks that followed, Thompson launched an exhaustive search. She knocked on doors, shared posts on social media, and distributed flyers all over town. As the days passed with no sign of Zeus, the reward for information about his whereabouts steadily increased.
Despite her efforts, Zeus was still missing as his 13th birthday came and went on December 1. Thompson’s “missing” posts were shared hundreds of times, but it seemed like the cat was lost forever.
Then, on December 18, Thompson’s phone began buzzing with a flurry of notifications, calls, and texts. To her relief, Zeus had been found.
“I saw a picture of the scraggliest, mangiest, most heartbreaking black cat,” Thompson shared with the Ford County Chronicle, adding that it immediately brought her to tears. A local girl named Sidney had found Zeus and had successfully reunited him with Thompson.
Though the reunion was joyful, Zeus was in poor health. According to Thompson, the cat had contracted an illness that was affecting his blood. He had also lost significant weight and suffered kidney damage due to malnutrition during his time away.
Thompson is now focused on helping Zeus recover, but she remains grateful for the kindness that led to their reunion after such a long and emotional journey.
