An adorable cat found sleeping in the ruins of Pontefract Castle earlier this week has sparked an appeal to reunite it with its owner.
Castle staff discovered the “soaking wet, covered in mud, and underweight” feline curled up in the kitchen of the historic site. Concerned for its welfare, the team rushed the cat to the vet, only to find that it was not microchipped. The vet believes the cat may have been living on the streets for some time.
After its unusual stay in the castle, the cat is now being looked after by a staff member while efforts are underway to locate its owner.
A spokesperson for Pontefract Castle stated, “If someone believes this is their lost cat, it would be wonderful to reunite them. Proof of ownership will be required.”
If no owner comes forward, the staff clarified that they are not seeking to adopt the cat out but are focused on finding its original home.
