Entrepreneur Terri Marion is planning to open a luxury hotel for dogs and cats in downtown Macon, with hopes of offering a “home away from home” for pets in the area. To make her vision a reality, Marion needs approval from the Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning Commission for a conditional use permit to open The Wagsworth Hotel at 538 First St.
The hotel would provide a range of services, including dog and cat boarding, doggy daycare, grooming, and a boutique. Marion’s goal is to create an environment that feels as much like home as possible for the pets, providing them with personalized care based on their owners’ requests.
“I want to give them as much of a home aesthetic as possible,” Marion said, emphasizing that each pet guest would receive luxury treatment tailored to their needs. For example, if a dog requires a specific playlist to feel comforted, Marion plans to accommodate that. The same level of personalized care would extend to medication administration and feeding schedules.
Additionally, Marion plans to offer dog-walking services for the downtown community.
The Wagsworth Hotel would feature several unique areas across two floors. The first floor would include the Sire and Dam boutique and reception area, which would be open to the public. A separate room on this level would house The Coterie, a set of cat condos designed to accommodate up to 12 cats. Other rooms on the first floor, not open to the public, would serve as SPAW bathing and grooming stations for dogs.
The second floor would feature small, medium, and large kennels for up to 60 dogs, along with an indoor play area for dogs staying at the hotel or attending DogStay, Marion’s doggy daycare brand.
To further enhance the pet experience, Marion also plans to create an outdoor play area for dogs in the back parking lot. Dogs staying for boarding or daycare would be regularly walked around the downtown area.
