Meet Tomashie, a stray cat from Alexandria, Virginia, lovingly cared for by Richard and Lois Totoiu. “We named him Tomashie, a Czech name that just felt right,” they share. This neighborhood visitor stops by regularly for food and water.
To make him feel at home, the Totoius have crafted a cozy “cat house” for his visits. “He enjoys relaxing in it—either lounging inside or sunning himself on top,” they say.
The shelter is insulated, complete with a padded floor and an “emergency escape” at the back. In the winter, they even add a heated pad designed for outdoor cats. “We want to keep him well-fed and warm,” they explain. Though Tomashie remains a bit feral, he’s gradually warming up to them—they’ve even reached the point where he allows a light touch on his nose!
So, if you spot him on his neighborhood patrol, feel free to greet him with, “Hello, Tomashie!”
Meanwhile, their other cat, Schrodinger—named after the famous theoretical feline—is described as the round peg in the square hole.
