While dogs are often considered man’s best friend, one Malaysian man has shown that cats can be just as great companions. At 42 years old, he discovered that his cat, Jibek, makes an excellent running buddy.
In a TikTok video posted on October 28, the man, known as Apak, shared his experience at “The Magnificent Baling 100” race in Kedah, where he ran 10 kilometers with Jibek comfortably perched on his shoulders.
The video opens with Apak and Jibek posing confidently at the starting line, exuding the ease of seasoned participants. As the race began, Apak navigated various terrains with Jibek lazily draped across his shoulders.
At moments, it seemed as though Jibek leaned forward, encouraging Apak to push toward the finish line. When the sun became too intense, Jibek sported a charming bucket hat to shield him from the rays. Toward the end of the race, the cat appeared ready to doze off.
In response to curious commenters, Apak revealed that Jibek weighed 7.5kg, yet he appeared unfazed by the added weight. He noted that the cat mostly remained calm, enjoying the scenery during the run.
“Every now and then, I would feed him to keep his spirits up. I also brought a portable fan, an umbrella, and a raincoat in case of bad weather,” he shared. He mentioned that Jibek would only hop off if he needed a bathroom break.
After completing the race, both Apak and Jibek were awarded medals for their achievement, and the proud owner lifted Jibek up in a celebratory gesture reminiscent of a lion king.
