When a new baby arrives, many parents worry about how their pets will react. However, Diana the rescue cat seems to be embracing her role as a big sister with enthusiasm.
Throughout Andrea McCue’s pregnancy in Scottsdale, Arizona, she noticed Diana’s affectionate behavior. “She would lay on my baby bump and purr almost every night,” McCue told Newsweek, highlighting the bond forming between the cat and her unborn child. After the arrival of Cannon in August, Diana’s affection only deepened.
McCue frequently shares Diana’s charming moments on TikTok (@myhusbandandmycat), and in October, she uploaded a heartwarming video showcasing the cat’s love for her new sibling. In the clip, McCue holds Cannon in her arms while Diana snuggles up to them, both animals appearing blissfully content.
The video of Diana’s adjustment to being a big sister quickly went viral, amassing over 1.9 million views and nearly 400,000 likes on TikTok.
“Since Day One, whenever we lay on the couch, recliner, or bed with baby Cannon, Diana is always nearby,” McCue remarked. “It’s pure love from our sweet Diana, and it fills our hearts with joy.”
McCue also noted, “If I have the baby on my chest, Diana carefully snuggles up and rests her head on him. Cannon has never had any allergic reactions, so we let them lay together.”
While McCue and her husband Cutter have other pets, Diana stands out as the most affectionate. She thrives on family time and seems to have a chronic case of FOMO (fear of missing out) when it comes to cuddling with Cannon.
The past year hasn’t been without its challenges for McCue and her husband. “2023 has been the hardest year of our lives,” she shared. Diana, however, has been a constant source of love and support during difficult times.
“At the beginning of the year, we lost our dog of 14 years to old age, and in August, we experienced a stillbirth,” McCue reflected. “Diana showed signs of sadness after losing her puppy brother, who grew up alongside her, both rescued from the Austin Humane Society. She also seemed to understand our pregnancy loss, staying close to us and offering comfort.”
After enduring such sorrow, McCue finds solace in seeing Diana curl up with their rainbow baby, Cannon. These tender moments are destined to become cherished memories for their family.
