Pep, a two-year-old rescue cat, was brought to Willowsway Cat Rescue six months ago after his previous owners could no longer care for him. He suffers from entropion, a condition where his eyelids turn inward, causing his eyelashes to rub against his eyes whenever he blinks. This leads to severe irritation and pain, as well as infections that can ultimately result in blindness.
Since arriving at the rescue center, Pep has been treated with eye drops and antibiotics, which have provided some temporary relief. However, he urgently requires surgery to address the underlying issue. A specialist veterinarian can perform an operation to remove small sections of skin from his eyelids, effectively turning his lashes outward and preventing them from irritating his eyes.
The total cost for Pep’s treatment, including the medication he has already received, is estimated at £2,600. Becky Jones, a volunteer at Willowsway and Pep’s temporary foster mother, expressed her concern for the cat. “He’s such a lovely boy. He’s so chatty and affectionate when he isn’t in pain,” she said.
“When he came to us, his eyes were in poor condition, and unfortunately, they have worsened since then. He has received creams, gels, ointments, drops, and antibiotics, but what he truly needs is surgery,” Becky explained. “The operation will cost £2,213. As a small, local charity, we simply don’t have those funds readily available.”
Becky admitted it makes her emotional to see Pep suffering. “Since we believe his condition is curable and he’s still so young, we are determined to raise the necessary funds, but we will need some assistance.”
Willowsway is currently accepting donations to help cover the cost of Pep’s surgery. Contributions can be made directly to the charity’s bank account (details available on their Facebook page), via PayPal, or in cash at 23 Belgrave Road, Northwich, CW9 8DB.
Becky emphasized, “Any help, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Pep is a wonderful cat, and once his eyes are better, he stands a great chance of finding his perfect forever home.”
In addition to monetary donations, Willowsway also welcomes contributions of food, litter, and other supplies for all their cats, as well as prizes for tombolas, raffles, and bingo events held to support their efforts.
