A kitten has died following the discovery of an abandoned litter found hidden in a bush. Volunteers from Cherwell Cats Protection rescued two kittens, estimated to be around five weeks old, earlier this week after a schoolboy located them near the Warriner School.
The kittens, named Axel and Rune, were reported to be “very weak and cold” upon their rescue. Unfortunately, one of the kittens succumbed to its condition and passed away overnight on Tuesday.
Cherwell Cats Protection, which provides care for vulnerable cats and kittens across Bicester, Banbury, Brackley, and Chipping Norton, is urging pet owners facing difficulties to seek assistance rather than abandoning their animals.
In a statement, the organization highlighted the growing issue of cat abandonment, saying, “Rescues are very full and we have a long waiting list, but if you are struggling with kittens, please get in touch so we can try and help you.” They also encouraged pet owners to neuter their cats and to reach out for advice if they are unable to afford the procedure.
