In a dramatic rescue operation on October 12, deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office braved floodwaters caused by Hurricane Milton to save an elderly woman and her two cats from her inundated home in Samsula.
Bodycam footage released by the sheriff’s office captures the moment rescue teams arrived at the woman’s residence, which was entirely surrounded by rising waters. One deputy was heard reassuring the woman, saying, “Your family called and said they were worried about you,” as she welcomed him at her front door.
The rescue team assisted the woman into a small boat, where they secured her belongings along with her beloved pets. They then transported her safely to dry land. Local reports indicate that the woman’s daughter had initiated the well-being check after losing contact with her mother following the hurricane.
This operation highlights the continued efforts of emergency responders in the face of severe weather conditions, ensuring the safety and welfare of vulnerable residents.
