ASOTIN — Samantha N. Rager, a 33-year-old resident of Pomeroy, has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing two valuable cats from a home on the 800 block of Fourth Street in Clarkston. The felines, worth $1,000 each, are described as gray with white tiger stripes on their backs.
Rager was arrested by Clarkston Police Officer Brad Peters after the missing cats were featured in a Facebook post, which led to their discovery in a vehicle captured by the LCV – Bad Drivers Spotted page.
Upon questioning, Rager acknowledged having the cats, asserting that the incident was intended as a joke and claiming it was “all blown out of proportion.” However, the owners of the cats stated that Rager had neither permission to enter their home nor to take the pets for a ride, and noted that she had never been to their residence prior to this incident.
Court documents indicate that the recommended charges against Rager include residential burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, and two counts of taking pets. Her bond was set at $15,000 during a hearing in Asotin County Superior Court.
Rager is scheduled for her next court appearance on October 21, where she will be arraigned before Judge Brooke Burns. Attorney Nick Ward is representing her, while Deputy Prosecutor Jaime Young is assigned to the case.
