Gosnells, September 26, 2024 – Residents of Gosnells are reminded that new regulations limiting cat ownership will take effect on October 12. Following this date, anyone wishing to keep more than two cats must obtain a permit from the City.
Those who have already registered more than two cats before the deadline will be exempt from this requirement. The City is also advising all pet owners to ensure their dog and cat registrations are renewed by October 31.
Mayor Terresa Lynes emphasized the importance of pet registration for the safe return of lost animals. “Registering your pet is the best way to ensure your pet is returned quickly and safely if it wanders or becomes lost,” she stated. Residents are encouraged to verify that their contact information is current to facilitate communication in case their pets are found.
Under the Cat Act 2011, all cats over six months must be sterilized, microchipped, and registered, while the Dog Act 1976 mandates that all dogs over three months must be microchipped, registered, and wear a registration tag.
Additionally, a 50 percent discount on fees for new one-year registrations is available for applications made between June 1 and October 31. All registrations will expire on October 31, regardless of the initial registration date. Failure to register a pet can result in a maximum penalty of $5,000.
