NORWALK, Ohio (WJW) — The Huron County Humane Society has successfully rescued 20 dogs and three cats from what officials describe as “filthy, inhumane conditions” at a residence in Attica. The rescue operation was carried out on August 23, following a search warrant executed in response to a citizen complaint.
Upon entering the home, humane investigators encountered numerous dogs suffering from severe fur matting and neglect. The animals were immediately taken into custody, where they have since received grooming and medical treatment from the society.
Amanda Fearing, the Humane Society’s medical director, emphasized the importance of their mission: “Preventing animal cruelty and seeking justice for abused animals is critically important. Thanks to the support of our community, we are able to rescue animals from inhumane situations, attend to their needs, and eventually place them in loving homes.”
An upcoming court hearing will address the custody and housing arrangements for the rescued animals as the legal proceedings continue. The Huron County Humane Society, which operates solely on donations, is currently seeking additional support to manage the care of the 23 new animals. Contributions in the form of money or supplies such as pet food, cat litter, and anti-flea medications can be made at the shelter located at 246 Woodlawn Ave., Norwalk, or through their website.
