CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Caldwell on Tuesday as animal welfare volunteers intervened to save approximately a dozen cats from an abandoned mobile home scheduled to be transported to the Canyon County landfill.
The situation emerged when rescuers discovered the cats in dire conditions within the mobile home, which was en route to the landfill. Swift action by volunteers allowed them to secure many of the animals before the mobile home was removed. Additional rescue efforts continued at the landfill site.
Animal advocates emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering pets to prevent situations where pet owners become overwhelmed. Pam Lazenby, a volunteer at the scene, highlighted the role of local organizations such as SNIP Spay Neuter Idaho Pets, Idaho Humane Society, and Pet Haven in promoting responsible pet ownership and offering support.
The Treasure Valley Cat Angels, an animal advocacy group, has taken charge of the rescued cats and is urgently seeking financial contributions for veterinary care, as well as foster families to provide temporary homes. Reports indicate that the cats are underweight and require immediate medical attention.
The incident underscores the critical need for continued support and education on pet care to prevent similar cases in the future.
