A cat in Louisville, Kentucky, recently found itself at the center of a health department investigation after biting its owner’s boyfriend—a situation that quickly went viral on social media.
The incident began when the two cats belonging to TikTok user @mawwose, named Larkin and Gin, got into a heated altercation during a move to a new home. The cats, who usually maintain a civil relationship, were involved in a fierce fight. In an attempt to defuse the situation, @mawwose’s boyfriend intervened, attempting to separate the felines by picking up Larkin. Unfortunately, this decision resulted in several bites from Larkin.
“He picked Larkin up to carry him away from Gin, and during that process got bit a lot,” @mawwose explained to *Newsweek* through TikTok.
Aware of the risks associated with cat bites, the owner insisted her boyfriend seek medical attention at urgent care. According to VCA Animal Hospitals, cat bites can cause small but deep puncture wounds that are prone to infection. If not treated promptly, a serious infection can develop within 24 to 48 hours.
Although the couple informed the doctor that Larkin was an indoor cat and had received his rabies vaccination just two months earlier, the doctor was required by law to report the incident to local authorities. This led to the owner receiving a letter from the Louisville health department.
“We got the letter in the mail telling us to quarantine Larkin,” @mawwose said. The owner complied by sending the health department Larkin’s vaccination records and a photo to confirm his health status. After reviewing the information, the health department deemed Larkin safe and cleared him from quarantine.
In an effort to set the record straight, @mawwose posted a TikTok video on August 19 with the caption, “He does not have rabies, he just be like that.”
This unusual incident underscores the importance of seeking medical attention after any animal bite and following legal protocols, even when the animal is well-known to the owner.
