TOOELE —A Tooele resident was taken into custody this weekend on multiple charges after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on his family’s kitten, which may necessitate the removal of its eyes, according to local authorities.
Alexander Fabian Acosta, 24, faces charges including the torture of a companion animal, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, four counts of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and drug possession with intent to distribute.
Police reports indicate that Acosta was seen strangling the kitten, throwing it onto the floor, and striking it in the head with a blunt object. These actions reportedly caused significant head and eye injuries to the animal. Due to the extent of the injuries, the kitten may require surgical removal of its eyes, as outlined in the police booking affidavit.
Following these allegations, officers executed a search warrant at Acosta’s residence, where they discovered a range of illicit substances including cocaine, marijuana, 77 THC vape pens, unidentified red and green pills, as well as ammunition and 35 pieces of drug paraphernalia.
Court records reveal that Acosta was placed on probation earlier this year after a conviction for aggravated assault, a charge that had been reduced to a class A misdemeanor.
