PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A devastating house fire in North Peoria on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of six cats and resulted in an estimated $60,000 in damages.
The Peoria Fire Department reported that the blaze started around 4:30 p.m. at a single-story residence on North Picture Ridge Road, located about half a mile from the Dairy Queen on Knoxville Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke billowing from the home. The homeowner informed them that six cats were trapped inside the building.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which had originated in the kitchen. Sadly, additional crews discovered the six cats had perished. Fortunately, the homeowner escaped the incident uninjured.
The fire department determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
