FRAMINGHAM — A cat had to be resuscitated after a kitchen fire broke out in a Beulah Street apartment on Monday, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 32 Beulah St., where they found two cats inside the apartment. Assistant Fire Chief John Schultz reported that one of the cats was not breathing when rescued.
Firefighters used a pet animal mask, donated to the department by the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, to help revive the cat. The condition of the two cats is not currently known.
Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher noted that while this was not the first use of such masks, their effectiveness in this instance was particularly successful.
The fire, which was contained to one unit in the Riverside Condos, was determined to be an “unattended kitchen fire.” Residents were not home at the time. The building was evacuated, but occupants were later allowed back in. The affected unit is now deemed uninhabitable due to fire damage.
