The Monash University Museum of Art in Melbourne has taken an unconventional approach to guiding visitors through its latest exhibition, “Candice Lin: The Sex Life of Stone.” Meet Kovu, the feline tour guide appointed to help patrons experience the artwork through a unique sensory lens. Kovu, working alongside MUMA curators, employs his innate senses of smell, sound, taste, and touch to engage visitors with Lin’s innovative installations. Despite Kovu’s occasional feline aloofness during tours, the initiative has garnered significant interest, with upcoming guided tours already sold out. This creative endeavor marks another instance of MUMA integrating animals into its exhibitions, echoing past unconventional presentations like a dingo on a leash and a beehive installation.
