In a heartwarming incident on I-195 East in Providence, a kitten caused a brief traffic delay before being rescued by a compassionate woman who spotted it while driving past, as revealed by body-worn camera footage.
Rhode Island State Police troopers were captured on Rhode Island Department of Transportation cameras attempting to capture the kitten, which had taken refuge underneath a stopped vehicle. It was later discovered that the kitten had fallen from an SUV and became lodged in the wheel well, prompting the driver to halt in the far left lane near the Washington Bridge.
Despite efforts from troopers and good Samaritans surrounding the vehicle, the kitten managed to escape and leaped over a jersey barrier, disappearing momentarily before traffic resumed.
Body-worn camera footage from a responding trooper shows the ensuing interaction with the woman who rescued the kitten. She was cradling the kitten in a blanket, explaining the situation to the trooper who expressed concern due to having a K-9 dog in his cruiser.
After a brief exchange, the trooper agreed to transport the kitten to Providence Animal Control, where it was confirmed safe and uninjured. Although not yet available for adoption, the kitten requires medical attention unrelated to its highway ordeal.
The touching rescue underscores the community’s compassion and willingness to assist animals in need, highlighting the importance of quick and caring responses in unexpected situations.
