In Ishikawa prefecture, Japan, a cat named Mei continues to wait for her owner’s return, unaware that her owner, Kazue Ueno, tragically passed away six months ago during an earthquake, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
Mei had been a companion to Ueno, 86, for a decade. Sadly, Ueno lost her life when a building collapsed on New Year’s Day in the Noto Peninsula due to the earthquake. Mei now resides amidst the debris where Ueno’s home once stood.
According to Ueno’s daughter, Hideko Takabayashi, Mei does not comprehend the loss of her owner and refuses to leave the site. Every day, Takabayashi makes the 20-minute drive to the collapsed house to ensure Mei is fed.
Repairing the roads damaged by the earthquake still prolongs the journey. Takabayashi expressed hope that Mei will eventually overcome her trauma and start anew with them.
